The Fragmentation of S. J. Chambers~writer
I imbibe words and consume past minds. As a result, I often awake next to strange sentences and forgotten meanings. Mostly on Mondays.
I posted a link earlier today about the Kickstarter campaign STEAMPUNK WORLD, but wanted to write more thoroughly about what is a great and important project. STEAMPUNK WORLD is a multicultural fiction anthology edited by Sarah Hans and published by Alliteration Ink. It is a diverse anthology featuring original work by James Ng, and original stories set beyond Victoriana. Speaking of, the anthology will include an introduction by Diana Pho (founder of Beyond Victoriana) and stories by Nisi Shawl, Ken Liu, Lucy A. Snyder, Jaymee Goh, Balogun Ojetade, Alex Bledsoe, as well as many others, including myself.
I am very proud to have my story “The Şehrazatın Diyoraması Tour” included in this anthology. It is a Turkish tale of mad science, but done discreetly in the dark room of Orientalism, imperalistic tourism, and the Tanzimat. The featured diorama-driven automaton, Şehrazt, was crudely drawn below in a draft doodle….
Anyway, I have always thought the power of Steampunk laid in its power of conversation, especially when it comes to exploring our present cultural issues through the lens of history. STEAMPUNK WORLD is definitely part of this conversation, and I hope fans of Steampunk will check out the Kickstarter and support this wonderful effort.
