Publishing Notes: Guest Editor for Non-Binary Review #12: The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe

Send me your Poe!

I have the distinct pleasure of being guest editor for Zoetic Press’s Non-Binary Review, #12: The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe, and I want YOU to send me your Poe-influenced work.

I have worked with Poe’s material closely now for about ten years, so it has been a real pleasure seeing what others bring to the pendulum table. However, I want more!

Submissions close 2/1 (a week from today), and I am especially interested in seeing non-fiction and pieces riffing off of more obscure works (I’d prefer to read “The Raven” riffs, nevermore). I also would like to see more POC, LGBTQ, and women writers and perspectives represented.

Paying market. Reprints are welcome, but no Emo.

Please send your submissions here.

For those who haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing Zoetic Press, or Non-Binary Review, let me introduce  you! (These explanations are quoted from their respective websites, which I have hyperlinked):

Zoetic Press is dedicated to the notion that narrative must continue to thrive, even as technology changes. Humans are hardwired to tell stories, and as our technical sophistication evolves, the stories we can tell are evolving. Zoetic Press is dedicated to searching out the best in electronic and interactive narrative and bringing it to the widest possible audience.

We want authors to expand how they tell their stories, and for readers to discover the potential and promise of literature that isn’t limited to the ‘book.'”

NonBinary Review is published four times a year. We take a piece of classic literature – Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Frankenstein, etc. – and invite authors to submit short stories, creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual art that interact with the work – fill in the blanks, extend the story, give us a fresh perspective on events. These submissions are then carefully curated into an experience that we think gives not just an interesting experience, but a greater understanding of the original work.

cover-nonbinary_frankenstein_webWe published NonBinary Review as an ebook, available either from the Zoetic Press website or from Amazon, but we do offer one story each week from the collection on our Alphanumeric page. Each issue is a full-length collection of stories, poetry and art connected to our original theme.”

I began my relationship with Zoetic Press back in 2014 when they publishing “Wandering Spirits” for the first time as a whole in Non-Binary Review: #2 Frankenstein, where the editors Allie Marini and Lise Quintana were awesome and nominated it for a Best of the Net.

Also awesome:  all covers (like the above) are by MANDEM, and are fantastic and worth the wait for unveiling each issue. I can’t wait to see what they do with Poe!
